The Holy Father’s prayer Intentions for the month of October from “Mission Today” workers and the unemployed

That all workers may receive respect and protection of their rights, and that the unemployed may receive the opportunity to contribute to the common good.

Pastoral Area Changes: As part of Wigan Deanery changes St. Jude’s and St. Aidan’s are to join together to form one parish to be known as “The Parish of Saint Jude and Saint Aidan”. Our new parish will have one Parish Priest with one administration and two church buildings. It is hoped that this will happen around the beginning of Advent but the exact date is not known as it is dependent on various building adaptations and other changes across the Deanery. Our new Parish Priest, Fr. John Causey, is very much looking forward to joining us and supporting us as we move forward together. Canon MacNally in retirement will reside in St. Aidan’s presbytery.

The Catenian Association are holding a fund raising evening for Diabetes UK and the British Lung Foundation in St.Jude’s Social Club on Friday 24th October at 7.30pm to which all are invited. Tickets are available at £5 from Harold Trowbridge Tel. 375216
Next Sunday we have a Mandatory collection for A.P.F. on World Mission Day. Please take a leaflet this week and a Gift Aid form for return next week. Thank you
Today is week 3 of the Annual Mass Count
Mission Boxes In accordance with the Safeguarding regulations Mission boxes must now be brought to church to be emptied as collectors are no longer allowed to enter people’s homes. A reminder will be put on the newsletter when boxes are required to be brought to church. Thank you for your co-operation.
The Rosary is recommended for prayer in the month of October.
Being a Catechist Course This is an introductory training course for catechists taking place over two sessions. It will be of interest for any new catechists and may well serve as a refresher or renewal opportunity for existing catechists. Please see the notice in the porch for further details.

Rosary Sunday Walk is today at 2pm and takes place at sacred Heart Church, Throstlenest Ave, Springfield. Assembly is on the car park at 2pm. The order of service is as follows:  2.15 Recite one decade of the Rosary for World Peace; one verse of Faith of our Fathers; The National anthem    then walk in threes to the church followed by Sermon and Benediction. There will be refreshments for all, served in the parish Hall after Benediction.

Home Mission Day. Today we have a Mandatory collection for the Home Missions. It is an opportunity to inspire the faithful and help them engage with the mission of the Church, to evangelise, whilst supporting the work of the Home Mission Office in a practical way.
CAFOD ‘POWER TO BE’ Campaign. Please sign a card at the back of church after Mass, or take one away and return it next week. We are asking Melanie Robinson, U.K. Executive Director at the World Bank, to use her voice at Board level to ensure the bank invests in providing safe, reliable, affordable energy for poor communities so that all children have the chance to flourish and achieve their dream. The U.K. has a strong voice at the World Bank, which is an international organisation set up to end poverty around the world.

Youth Effect Last weekend the Youth Effect had their”sleep over” in the church, here at St. Aidan’s raising money for theBrick and Joshua’s Den, and raising awareness of the homeless in our midst. What an inspiration this is to us, and gives us hope and confidence for the future, as we see faith in Jesus Christ lived out in action.

New Rotas are now available for Eucharistic Ministers and Ministers to the Sick. These can be found in the rack on the right hand side of the vestment press in the sacristy.
The funeral service for the late Anthony Evans will be here on Mon.4th. September at 2p.m. Condolences to his family and friends.

R.C.I.A. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a series of meetings which guide people who are considering entering into the Catholic church. Introductory meeting 14th September at St. John’s Parish meeting room Powell St. from 7.15 – 9pm Please see poster in the porch.
Our Parish Consultation forms have been given to our Dean , Fr. Aidan Kelly

The P.P.C. meets next Sun. 3rd. Sept. in the presbytery at 7.30p.m.
Youth Effect The youth Effect will be “sleeping over” in the church on Saturday 2nd September to raise awareness and sponsorship for “The Brick”. Sponsorship forms will be at the back of church after Mass and any tins donated for our Sculpture would be gratefully received. Thank you.
A reminder to parishioners old and new. Tea and coffee is served after Mass in the social Centre next door. Please come and share with us in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. So far this year we have donated £500 to charity, thank you for your support and generosity.

Tomorrow Monday 14th August there will be a vigil Mass at 7.00pm for the Holy Day of “The Assumption of Our Blessed Lady” so there will be no morning mass that Monday morning.
There will be a funeral service on Monday at 1.15pm for Arthur Worthington, a former parishioner. Our heartfelt condolences to Arthur’s family. All welcome to the funeral service
